If you’ve been throwing masks in the trash before a hot summer, it’s time to replenish your supplies.

Back in May, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines for wearing masks at home are relaxed for people who are fully immunized against COVID-19, citing a decrease in total hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19.

However, CDC tightening mask instructions again in late July after the delta variant caused an increase in COVID-19 cases. Now, everyone, regardless of immunization status, is advised to wear a mask in some indoor public places, especially in parts of the United States where coronavirus cases are on the rise.

The delta variations work differently from past strains of COVID-19, with new scientific evidence suggesting that some vaccinated people infected with this variant can become infected and potentially spread the virus to others. CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky warned that if the virus was allowed to spread, we could “just need a few mutations” from it that would eventually evade our vaccine.

With that in mind, President Joe Biden called the updated mask guidance “one more step in our journey to defeat this virus.” So whether you’ve thrown your masks in the trash or they’re just a little worse to wear, it’s likely time to stock up on a fresh batch.

The following masks are suitable for CDC’s Recommended Principles, but you should also make sure that your mask fits your face and completely covers your nose and mouth.

Adrienne So from Wired recommend you to try your mask with lights and candles: “Can I see the light through the textile? Can I blow out a candle while wearing it? The weave of the mask should be tight enough to prevent you from doing either of those things. “
